We investigate the problem of specificity of protein-protein interactions. In a living cell thousands of different proteins interact with each other with extraordinary degree of specificity. Nature has created proteins in such a way that non-specific (unwanted) interactions are suppressed. The key question is what are the design principles that Nature uses to provide such a high specificity of protein-protein interactions and to avoid the putative interactions. This fundamental question is of great practical significance for the drug-design applications.
